  • When Delta Junior High closes out the track season at Madison Parish on April 25, Jakiya White will take aim on her second straight undefeated season in the 400 and 800-meter runs.
White also anchors the Lady Mustangs' undefeated 4 x 400m relay team, following Nautica Caldwell, Tiffany Washington and Jakira Langham.
White's personal records are 1:02 in the 400m and 2:45 in the 800.
Considering that she is only a sixth-grader competing against seventh and eighth-graders, the 12-year-old White's achievements are even more remarkable.
Challenging older athletes is nothing new to White, who began running at the junior high level as a third grader.
Running against athletes her own age, White represented the City of Bastrop Track Club at the Hershey's Track & Field Games in Hershey, Pa. a couple of years back.
This summer, she plans to run for Massey Track & Field out of Monroe.
ROCKY: Former Bastrop High offensive and defensive lineman Rodney “Rocky” Seay will leave for the Air Force on May 14. His destination has yet to be determined. He has already completed basic training.
Seay graduated from Louisiana Tech in computer information systems in May of 2012 and is currently over the in-school suspension class at Morehouse Junior High.
A 2008 Bastrop High graduate, Seay played on the Rams' 2006 and 2007 state championship teams after beginning his career at Delta.
