Funeral services for Mrs. Ernestine McKoin Crook, age 86, of Mer Rouge, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Oak Ridge, with the Rev. Terry Young officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

Ernestine was born in McGinty on May 25, 1926. She was a graduate of Bonita High School. She attended LSU in Baton Rouge, before marrying her loving husband, Louie Vernon Crook Sr. on June 12, 1949; they were married 61 years.

She worked as a devoted homemaker for her family for 64 years. She enjoyed cooking and canning; her pickles and pralines will be sorely missed. Ernestine was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and was an active member in the Pierian Club. She was also an avid fan of LSU and New Orleans Saints Football.

Ernestine is survived by her children, Dr. Louie Vernon Crook Jr. and wife Kathy and Dr. Daniel Estes Crook and Rhonda; grandchildren, William Bradley (Brad) Crook and wife Marguerite, Kristina Marie (Kristy) Crook and Laura Ashley Crook; brother, Marvin Lee McKoin; many, many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, Polk Dallas McKoin Sr and Bessie Belle Doles McKoin; husband, Louie Vernon Crook Sr., sisters, Bessie Belle McKoin, Irene Berniece McKoin Borne, Mary Elizabeth (May) McKoin Dillon, Helen Rose McKoin Kovac and Lillian McKoin Cates; brothers, Preston Perry McKoin, Leslie Hubert McKoin, Polk Dallas McKoin Jr. and Cecil McKoin and grandson, Louie Vernon Crook III (Trey).

Pallbearers will be Brad Crook, Ken Kovac, Jack McKoin, Kelsey McKoin, Lee McKoin and Charles Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Kovac Jr., Scott McKoin, Steven McKoin, Dallas McKoin, Cliff Wallace, Carroll Dean Wallace and Keith David.
