  • Lady Panthers finish district play undefeated

  • Avery Elkins went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI triples and three runs scored as Sterlington took care of Jonesboro-Hodge 15-3 Monday afternoon to finish District 2-2A play undefeated.
    Amber Pardue's two-out RBI single chased home Myleiah Burks, who walked and stole second, to give the Lady Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
    Sterlington tied the game in the bottom of the first when Cassidy Brady singled home Elkins, who drew a one-out walk and pilfered second.
    It remained 1-1 until the Lady Panthers broke the game open with an 11-run third.
    Elkins, the first of 15 batters in the marathon inning, led off with a base hit to left-center and crossed home with the go-ahead run on Taylor Wilson's double down the left field line.
    Three walks, a hit batsman and a strikeout later, Hannah Harrell scorched a two-run double to the left-center gap, bringing the score to 7-1.
    Sarah Gandy followed with an RBI infield single and Elkins slugged a run-scoring triple to right-center. After Wilson walked, Brady delivered her second RBI single of the contest and Chelbi Johnson was safe on an error.
    LaSecret Jones' sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth closed the deficit to 12-2.
    Sterlington added three in its half of the fourth as Mallory Forbes was safe on a two-base error, Harrell cranked an RBI double and Elkins whacked a one-out triple and scored on Wilson's sac fly.
    Savannah Lowe's leadoff home run to straightaway center field in the fifth wrapped up the scoring.
    Elkins paced the Lady Panthers' nine-hit attack with two triples and a single, Harrell connected for a pair of doubles, Brady singled twice, Wilson doubled and Gandy singled.
    Lowe homered and Burks, Pardue and Alaina Thomas singled for the Lady Tigers (8-10, 0-6).
    Gandy was the winning pitcher, striking out nine and walking four.
    Sterlington (10-13, 6-0) will recognize its seniors prior to Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. game against Franklin Parish, before closing out the regular season in Ruston against Cedar Creek on Wednesday.
    Notes: Members of Sterlington's 2003 state championship softball team were recognized prior to the game. Attending the pregame ceremony were Britni Bowen Hamby, Magen Auger Keys, Kindal Bardin Kimbell, Connie Long Merritt, Shannon Darmstaedter Powell, Brooke Bowen Thomas and coach Boyd Cole. … Sterlington began the week at No. 21 in the LHSAA's latest power rankings, which were released Monday morning.
