Bass and crappie are hitting on Black Bayou.

BLACK BAYOU — Bass and crappie are moving in around the trees with bass hitting Rogues and lizards while some crappie are being caught on jigs or shiners. For latest information, contact the Honey Hole at 323-8707.

CANEY LAKE — The big bass are in the coves with heavyweight females on the beds. Big tubes or Flukes are good baits to try. Here’s a suggestion; should you catch one of those big sow bass, get her weighed, take some photos and measurements and release her in the same area. The crappie are moving to the shallows to set up for the spawn and are hitting shiners or jigs. Chinquapins are starting to show up in the back of the creeks and hitting worms and small crawfish. CHENIERE LAKE — Bass fishing has been best on black/blue lizards and jigs. Crappie are fair and scattered around the trees and hitting shiners and jigs. Call the Honey Hole at 323-8707 for more information.

LAKE CLAIBORNE — Bass fishing is improving with best catches made in the back of the creeks around grass and brush on lizards, Rogues and jigs. The crappie have started making their move to the shallows with some still hanging out in deeper water. Shiners and jigs are picking up some fish. LAKE D’ARBONNE — The crappie bite has improved now that the weather has moderated. Head for the sloughs and coves, dangle a shiner or jig around the base of the cypresses and you’re likely to get bit. Bass will be in the same areas and fishing lizards, Rogues or spinner baits should pay off. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie are beginning to move shallow with some good fish caught on Bobby Garland jigs in Electric Chicken, Blue Grass, Popsicle and black/hot pink patterns.
