  • Bastrop Lady Rams' coach Emma Brooks said Thursday that power forward Michelle Hardin and center Danielle Greely will continue their basketball careers at the junior college level.
Hardin is expected to sign with Baton Rouge Community College, while Greely is headed to Bossier Parish Community College. A signing ceremony is scheduled for the duo on Friday, April 12, at Bastrop High.
Both are academically qualified to sign with four-year schools, but are taking the junior college route by choice.
“Both of these young ladies have their grades and ACT scores. They are choosing the junior college route to play basketball,” Brooks said. “Honestly, I think this is the best route for both of them. They have a great opportunity to play instead of sitting or redshirting. Once they get two years under their belts, maybe they can actually step into a Division I program.”
While Brooks believes both athletes made the right choice by going juco, that doesn't necessarily mean they have taken an easy path.
“Ultimately, it's going to be up to them to prove themselves and to do what they are supposed to do,” Brooks said. “Junior college is a very competitive level in itself. A lot of junior college players have
Division I skills, but had to go to junior college because of their grades or for whatever reasons.
“They need to be preparing themselves right now. There is no offseason for women's basketball anymore.”
Hardin and Greely were both two-year starters for the Lady Rams. As sophomores, both were reserves on Bastrop's Class 4A state runner-up team.
Greely will be part of BPCC's first-ever women's basketball signing class.
