The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the Morehouse Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) have joined forces to offer business consulting and training to small businesses in Morehouse Parish. Beginning in April, the LSBDC will provide confidential business consulting here locally, at no cost to the public.
“This is counseling for those either in business for themselves or those who want to go into business for themselves,” said MEDC President Kay King. “Before, I had to send people in the direction of Monroe if they needed advice of this nature. Now they'll be able to get the information and advice they need right here at home.”

The LSBDC will offer consulting services in key business areas including sales and marketing, cash flow management, strategic planning, market/industry research and access to capital.

“The objective of this partnership is to help boost the economy by growing existing businesses and fostering new startups in Northeast Louisiana,” said Mary Lynn Wilkerson, LSBDC State Director. “Our consultants will work one-on-one with small businesses to conduct a complete financial analysis, provide access to market research and develop strategies designed to help small businesses increase sales.”

The LSBDC will also hold a Starting and Financing a Small Business workshop, once per quarter, starting in April. The first workshop will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on April 9 at the Visitor Center.

The small business consulting sessions will be from 1 – 4 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month, beginning April 11, at the MEDC, located inside the Capital One Bank Building at 101 South Franklin Street Suite A in Bastrop.
