CANEY LAKE — Some bass in the 8 to 9 pound range are being caught back in the coves on tubes and Flukes. Crappie are moving to the shallows to set up for the spawn and are hitting shiners or jigs. Yellow bass are still deep and are fair on jigging spoons. Some chinquapins have shown up on Smith Branch on worms and small crawfish. Catfish are fair on shiners. CHENIERE LAKE — Bass fishing has been best on black/blue lizards and jigs. Crappie are fair and scattered around the trees and hitting shiners and jigs. Call the Honey Hole at 323-8707 for more information.
LAKE CLAIBORNE — Bass fishing is slowly improving with best catches made in the back of the creeks around grass and brush on lizards, Rogues and jigs. The crappie have started making their move to the shallows with some still hanging out in deeper water. Shiners and jigs are picking up some fish. Stripers have been fair below the spillway. LAKE D’ARBONNE — The crappie bite has been off and on with best action coming later in the day as the sun warms the water a few degrees, triggering a shallow bite. Some are still hanging out in 8-10 foot water as well. Bass are in the sloughs and back in the creeks with best catches made on Rogues or lizards. Catfish are always biting around the lake. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie are beginning to move shallow with some good fish caught on Bobby Garland jigs in Electric Chicken, Blue Grass, Popsicle and black/hot pink patterns.
