  • Wet grounds have forced a change in the District 2-4A baseball series between Bastrop and West Ouachita.
Rather than playing a double header at Baron Ballpark on Tuesday, the two teams will play a single game in Cadeville, starting at 6 p.m.
Bastrop was originally scheduled to host the Chiefs for two on Saturday, but the games were moved to Tuesday because of the BHS prom. The schedule was adjusted again when a severe Easter thunderstorm left the field at Baron saturated. A double header is now tentatively scheduled for Thursday at Baron. With Wednesday's weather forecast calling for an 80 percent chance or rain, Thursday's games could be in jeopardy as well.
Bastrop (7-13, 1-2) stood at No. 30 when the LHSAA released its latest power rankings on March 16. Monday night's 6-5 setback at Alexandria Senior High extended the Rams' losing streak to four.
Sitting squarely on the playoff bubble, every game is important to the Rams.
"We need to win as many game as possible, so there won't be any doubt," Whitlock said.
Drawing a bye in District 2-4A play last week, the Rams lost a two-game series to Class 5A Ruston, 7-2 in Bastrop on Thursday and 7-1 at Ruston on Saturday.
"We were in both games, but a couple of errors here and a couple of walks there, and they broke it open," Bastrop coach Whit Whitlock said. "They had a couple of quality starters on the mound. You have to make the most of your opportunities against Ruston and we didn't do that."
West Ouachita (17-7, 5-1) had a seven-game winning streak snapped during Monday's 11-7 loss to Neville. The Chiefs won the series opener 9-3 on Thursday at Embanato Field and won the first half of Saturday's scheduled double header 9-7 in Cadeville. Game 3 of the series was suspended due to rain and completed Monday.
West Ouachita opened district play by sweeping Franklin Parish, 11-0, 12-0 and 12-1.
Bastrop, meanwhile, dropped two of three to Neville to start district play.
