Lt. Williams is a firefighter with the Bastrop Fire Department. He's been certified in CPR and Hazmat Awareness.
What inspired you to become a firefighter?
My Papaw “Buddy” (James Williams) inspired me because he retired here with 30 years as a firefighter. He is the greatest man I've ever known.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
I don't like being away from home for 24 hours, away from my wife and kids.
What is your most memorable moment and why?
The first day I got set up to be a driver. I'd been here about five minutes and I was checking my truck. A call came in about a house fire and we had to leave immediately. As I was driving to the fire, I was a nervous wreck.
What do you like the most about your job?
The excitement that you get when you're going out on a call and the excitement that kids get when they're around us.
What do you like the least?
I don't like seeing tragedy, whether it be a family losing their home or losing a loved one. Also, I don't enjoy not being at home with my family at night and on holidays.
Family? I have a beautiful wife, Karen, and the two most lovely daughters in the world, Addison and Mallory.
