Share of Northeast Louisiana Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, Inc. will begin having monthly meetings in Bastrop.
The support group is a chapter of the national Share group and is a support for families touched by the death of a baby through early pregnancy loss, stillbirth or in the first year of life. It offers parents, grandparents, friends and family the opportunity to meet with other parents who have suffered the death of a baby.
Share Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, Inc. began in 1977 when St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill. joined with area physicians and community members to become actively involved in meeting the needs of parents who had experienced the death of their baby due to pregnancy loss, stillbirth or early infant death. According to it's website, the Share philosophy encompasses supportive hospital care and follow-up support as well as mutual-help support.
Colleen Howard, president of Share of Northeast Louisiana, encourages anyone who has been touched with the death of a baby to attend the newly-formed group and be a part of a network that knows exactly what you are going through and can help with not just support from others who have dealt with the same type of loss but also can give resources such as grief counseling.
The Northeast La. chapter will meet at 6 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the Morehouse Community Medical Center, located at 518 Durham St. The first meeting will be held April 1.
