Two DeRidder men were arrested Saturday morning in connection with the murder of a Georgia man Friday night into Saturday morning.
The department reported that Chadrick Mayes and Antonio Mayes were arrested in connection with the death of David Palmer III, of Georgia. Chadrick Mayes has been charged with second degree murder, and Antonio Mayes has been charged with accessory after the fact to second degree murder.
Police say that Palmer was in the DeRidder area with friends and family for an upcoming wedding. They say that Palmer got into a verbal argument with Chadrick Mayes Friday evening at a residence on Tara Drive, located off U.S. 190 West. During the argument, the argument escalated, and Chadrick Mayes produced a pistol and fired a single shot that struck Palmer.
The DPD responded to the residence shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Both Antonio and Chadrick Mayes were stopped and apprehended by the Newton County Sheriff's Office early Saturday morning, and detectives with the DPD charged the individuals after questioning them.
Bond for each individual has been set at $1,000,000 each.
The DPD is still investigating the homicide; assisting the department are the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office, the Merryville Police Department, and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Forensics Unit.
