Sterlington head baseball coach Randy Carr remains out indefinitely while undergoing shoulder surgery.
Dr. David Trettin performed the surgery on Thursday, March 21, to remove bones spurs and repair the labrum and rotator cuff in Carr's right shoulder. Most importantly, perhaps, a bicep tendon was reattached.
Sterlington, which is on a four-game winning streak, is 2-0 under assistant coaches Bucky Chandler and Mark Sims during Carr's absence.
“I'm glad we're putting a few wins together,” Carr said. “I'm glad the kids are playing well.”
SCOUTING: Jones County Junior College head coach Christian Ostrander and assistant Chris Kirtland made the drive from Ellisville, Miss. to Sterlington to witness Wednesday's baseball game between the Panthers and Oak Grove.
Ostrander and Sterlington head football coach Jason Thompson were baseball teammates at Delta State University.
ALL-STAR: Sterlington pitcher/shortstop Sarah Gandy has been selected to play in the LHSAA All-Star games at Louisiana College in Pineville. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m., with Game 2 set for Friday, May 18 at 1 p.m.
Gandy, a six-year starter and two-time, first-team Class 2A All-State selection, will play for the East squad.
STATE CHAMPS: Sterlington will observe the 10th anniversary of the 2003 state championship softball season prior to the regular season finale on Tuesday, April 9 vs. Franklin Parish. Members of the championship team are invited to attend the game which starts at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Panthers have three games on the docket for next week, starting with home games against Ouachita on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Jonesboro-Hodge on Thursday at 5:30, plus a road tilt at West Ouachita on Saturday.
