Chelsea Fagan drove in five runs with a grand slam home run and a sacrifice fly as the Bastrop Lady Rams trimmed Franklin Parish 9-7 Tuesday afternoon in District 3-4A softball action.
Bastrop (9-7, 3-2) got off to a fast start, taking a 4-0 lead before the first out was recorded.
Kenyshae Beasley walked, Megan Crymes reached on an error and Tia Coleman walked. Fagan, the Lady Rams' cleanup batter, then deposited a grand slam over the right field fence, giving the visitors a 4-0 lead.
After the Lady Patriots cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the second, Bastrop answered with three in the third. Capitalizing on Tia Coleman's leadoff single, three walks and a throwing error, the Lady Rams upped the margin to 7-3.
Megan Crymes' one-out double plated Beasley, aboard on an error, to make it 8-4 in the fourth.
Franklin matched the Lady Rams with a run in the home half of the fourth.
It remained 8-5 until the Lady Rams added a valuable insurance marker in the seventh.
Coleman banged a leadoff triple to deep center field and trotted home on Fagan's sac fly, giving Bastrop a 9-5 cushion.
Beasley retired the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh, before the Lady Patriots scored two runs on two errors and a base hit. With the tying run at the plate, Beasley worked out of the jam with a groundout to shortstop.
Beasley walked four, struck out three and allowed five hits in the complete game victory.
Coleman tripled, singled and scored three runs for the Lady Rams, Fagan went deep and Crymes doubled.
Bastrop gets back into action Tuesday at Farmerville, before resuming district play at home vs. Neville on Wednesday afternoon at 5.
