  • Sterlington linebacker Cody McGuire has received his first scholarship offer. A 6-3, 210-pound senior-to-be, McGuire said ULM head coach Todd Berry made the offer on Tuesday, March 19.
McGuire is still mulling the Warhawks' proposal.
“I'm still weighing my options right now,” McGuire said.
McGuire attended ULM's Junior Day, an invitation only event, on Saturday, March 16.
“We walked around campus, toured the facilities and talked to the coaches,” McGuire said. “Basically, we were just getting a feel for the place.”
McGuire also traveled to Baton Rouge for LSU's Junior Day in February.
He has received invitations to attend summer camp at Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech and has been invited to McNeese State's spring game.
An honor student, McGuire says academics and the potential for playing time will be the two key factors in his choosing a school.
“Right now, I'm looking for a place that offers my major, plus playing time,” McGuire said. “I don't want to go somewhere and just sit.”
As for the present, McGuire says he is excited about preparing for the upcoming season under new head coach Jason Thompson.
“I think coach Thompson is bringing in a good program,” McGuire said. “I like the work ethic this team is putting out right now.”
McGuire led the Panthers defensively last year with 126 tackles, 26 tackles for negative yardage, three sacks and an interception. Seeing double duty at tight end, he caught four passes for 64 yards and a pair of touchdowns. An honorable mention All-State linebacker, he was first-team All-District 2-2A and All-Northeast Louisiana and a second-team All-District tight end.
As a sophomore, McGuire earned second-team All-District acclaim as a linebacker.
Lettering as a freshman, he played primarily on special teams.
McGurie is also a first baseman for the Panthers' baseball team.
