  • After rejecting a zoning change last week, the Gonzales City Council introduced a new ordinance which will allow Emerson to expand its facilities in Gonzales.
Mayor Barney Arceneaux read the new ordinance aloud at Monday's city council meeting, saying it would rezone property in the Edenborne development from a traditional neighborhood development to a C-2 commercial-zoned area under a special use permit.
Councilman Timothy Vessel made a motion to approve the new ordinance, which was seconded by Councilman Kenny Matassa, calling Emerson "one of the finest companies ever to operate in Ascension Parish."
Under the new plan, Emerson, a high-tech Fortune 500 company, would be allowed to locate a new $16 million facility on 17.57 acres of property in the Edenborne development, at I-10 and La. 44.
The company planned to consolodate its operations in the parish with a regional headquarters facility. Company officials reported the regional headquarters alone will bring 180 permanent jobs to Gonzales, including 90 new jobs, with an annual payroll of $9.2 million.
The council is expected to make a decision on the issue at its next meeting on Mon., April 8.
