Reaping the rewards of one of the best seasons in school history, the Prairie View Lady Spartans swept the individual awards on the MAIS All-District 3-2A girls basketball team. Dani Anderson and Kristen Oliphant are co-Most Valuable Players and Ed Bain is Coach of the Year.
Anderson, a junior center, nearly averaged a double double while leading the team in scoring (11.8), rebounding (9.8), field goal percentage (47.6 percent) and blocked shots (69).
It's the second District MVP award of the school year for Oliphant, who was also the 3-2A softball MVP. A senior point guard, Oliphant scored at a 9.1 clip and led the squad in 3-point buckets (52) and assists (4.3). She also contributed 2.6 steals per game.
Anderson and Oliphant are both three-time, first-team All-District honorees.
Bain guided the Lady Spartans to a 30-8 record, a third-place finish in the Class 2A State Tournament and the first Overall Tournament victory in school history (girls or boys).
Also representing the Lady Spartans on the first team is Tori Simmons, a senior guard/forward, who averaged 9.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and a team-high 2.7 steals per outing.
Rounding out the first unit are Jaicie Gilley, Rebecca Causey and Lindsey Duncan of district runner-up River Oaks, Molly Wilson and Kylee Love of Riverdale and Mary Beth Hale of Central Hinds.
In all, the Lady Spartans claimed five spots on the team as guard Erika Guerrero and forward Jay Hicks, a pair of juniors, are listed on the second team.
Guerrero averaged 6.5 points and 1.8 steals, while Hicks shot 45 percent from the floor en route to averaging 6.2 points and 5.2 boards.
Rounding out the second team are Kelsey Murray and Libby Warren of Riverdale, Anna Curtis of Central Hinds and Samantha Thurmon and Katelyn Williams of River Oaks.
