Prairie View hosts Riverdale on Friday, Franklin Academy on Saturday and River Oaks on Tuesday.
Resuming MAIS District 3-2A play, the Prairie View Spartans open a three-game homestand Friday at 6 against the Riverdale Rebels. Prairie View will also host Franklin Academy in a non-district JV/varsity double header, starting Saturday at 6 p.m., before closing out the stand Tuesday with a 4 p.m. JV/varsity twinbill vs. River Oaks.
Tristen Shanks threw a three-hit shutout and went 4-for-4 at the plate as the Spartans (9-4) took care of Riverdale 9-0 Tuesday in Coushatta.
Prairie View banged out 15 hits.
“It was 0-0 after the first inning. Then they started getting behind in the count and having to throw the ball down the middle and we did a good job of taking advantage of it,” Prairie View coach Dan Smart said.
Maclendon Sharp will draw the starting assignment on the mound tonight, with Matt Reed taking the hill in Saturday's game.
Since losing three straight, the Spartans have won three in a row, including an 18-0 decision over
Claiborne Academy and a 3-2, nine-inning triumph over Riverfield.
“We've only had one game where we were out of it,” Smart said. “Franklin beat us 11-3 in the third game of their tournament. It was just one of those days.”
Smart says the Spartans are starting to do the little things better.
“We're getting to where we can execute,” Smart said. “We're moving runners over, which has really helped us.”
