A local man led the Bastrop Police Department on a chase that ended with his car inside a storage room.
According to BPD Chief of Police Downey Black, a call was received Monday about a vehicle in a ditch.

Officer Max Hollins responded and upon his arrival, a witness told him the man driving was able to get the vehicle out of the ditch and the witness pointed it out to him.

As Hollins began to follow the vehicle, the driver, identified as James F. White Jr., 23, went through a stop sign without yielding. Hollins turned on his lights in an attempt to stop White, who continued through the neighborhood.

White finally pulled into a driveway but continued driving the vehicle until it ran through the homeowner's storage room, which was connected to the home.

White appeared to be impaired upon his removal from the vehicle and failed to comply with officer's commands. He was taken to Morehouse General Hospital and released before being charged with careless operation, flight from an officer, driving while intoxicated - first offense, resisting an officer, no proof of insurance, no license plates and possession of schedule II drugs.

White was booked into the Morehouse Parish jail.

Officers also arrested a local man who had allegedly stolen a vehicle and was wanted in connection with a theft of a local business.

Donald Ray Williams Jr., 20, 807 Taylor, allegedly took a vehicle not belonging to him and was seen standing by it at a local car wash. When officers tried to approach Williams, he got in the vehicle and fled. A chase ensued toward US Hwy. 165, where Williams lost control of the car in the median and fled on foot into the woods.

Williams was seen again at a local business, where he was suspected of stealing. Again, he fled when officers tried to make contact with him.

On Monday, BPD Captain Allen Campbell saw Williams and was able to apprehend him. Campbell arrested Williams on charges of three counts of theft of goods, two counts of resisting an officer, flight from an officer, trespassing, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and no driver's license. He was also placed in the Morehouse Parish jail.
