Former Delta and Bastrop High standout Josh Downs will be among the 20-plus participants seeking to impress NFL scouts when LSU holds its annual Pro Day on Wednesday, March 27. ESPN3 will provide live coverage, starting at 1:15 p.m.

Downs played in all 13 games (starting 10) for the Tigers as a senior defensive tackle, logging 19 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He accounted for 46 yards in losses.

At Bastrop, he was a three-time All-State selection, helping the Rams win state championships in 2006 and '07.

Other LSU expected to participate in the event are defensive end Chancy Aghayere, kicker Drew Alleman, tight end Chase Clement, guard Josh Dworaczyk, defensive end Lavar Edwards, center P.J. Lonergan and wide receiver Russell Shepard.

Underclassmen expected to take part in the workouts include offensive tackle Chris Faulk, running back Michael Ford, defensive tackle Bennie Logan, cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, defensive end Barkevious Mingo, linebacker Kevin Minter, defensive end Sam Montgomery, safety Eric Reid, cornerback Tharold Simmons, running back Spencer Ware and punter Brad Wing.

MARK LAIRD is off to a blazing start to his college career at LSU. Starting 16 of the Tigers' 17 games, the walk-on right fielder and former Ouachita Christian stalwart leads the team in batting average (.410) and on-base percentage (.478) and is second on the club with 17 runs scored.

LSU (16-1) opens SEC play with a three-game series, starting Friday at Mississippi State.

TIGER TOUR: LSU’s annual spring tour will consist of 10 stops from April 22-May 2.

Head football coach Les Miles and head basketball coach Johnny Jones are scheduled to be the guest speakers in the Shreveport/Bossier area on April 22 and in Monroe on Tuesday, April 23.
