  • 3-5A All-District Basketball: Cupit named District 3-5A MVP

  • SULPHUR – After a very successful four years at Sulphur High School it is only fitting that Lady Tor senior Hannah Cupit goes out on top. Bound for McNeese State University in the fall, Cupit has been named the MVP of District 3-5A for the 2012-2013 season.

  • After a very successful four years at Sulphur High School it is only fitting that Lady Tor senior Hannah Cupit goes out on top. Bound for McNeese State University in the fall, Cupit has been named the MVP of District 3-5A for the 2012-2013 season.
    Starting since her freshman year, Cupit has been the undisputed leader as Sulphur reached the playoffs all four years as well as earning all-district honors each year.
    Cupit saved her best for last. Surrounded by a supporting cast of underclassmen, Cupit led the Lady Tors to their first District 3-5A championship since 2004 with a perfect 12-0 record, an appearance in the state semifinals for the first time since 1998 and a 28-4 record.
    Head coach Helen Lefevre was named the coach of the year to give Sulphur a sweep of the top awards.
    Joining Cupit (14.2ppg) on the first team is teammate Kristina Metoyer (Junior, forward) who averaged 14.8 points per game.
    Also making the first team were Kortney King (Lafayette), Taylor Ryan (Acadiana) and Sam Houston's Nicole Clark.
    Sulphur also claimed two sports on the second team with junior point guard Becca Brooks (7.9ppg) and junior guard Ally Cupit (13.7ppg). The rest of the second team includes Taylor Payne (Lafayette), Sarah Grevemberg (Barbe) and Ashley Harris (Acadiana).
    On the boys' side of District 3-5A, Comeaux claimed the top two honors in the district in MVP Hayward Register (19.1ppg) and coach of the year Rob Melanson.
    Comeaux rolled through the district undefeated and advanced all the way to the semifinals.
    Joining Register on the first team are Julian Thomas (Comeaux), Kenny Waddell (Sam Houston), DeEdward Cormier (Acadiana) and Corey Davis (Lafayette).
    Second team honors went to Elsy Cyprian (Carencro), Anthony Poullard (Barbe), Treylin Prejean (Comeaux), Keithon Mouton (Acadiana) and Omosa Ogunsuyi (Comeaux).
    While the Tors didn’t get any first team or second team honors, sophomore guard Jacobe Esclovon was named to the all-defensive team while Chris Freeman (So.), Taran Winston (Jr.), Cody Burel (So.), Jared Benton (Sr.) and Kelo Fradieu (Jr.) earned honorable mention honors.
