  • Ch'Kilas Calhoun and Carnelius White finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash to highlight the Bastrop Rams' performance in the U.S. Army National Guard Senior Billie Relays at Monticello High School on Thursday.
Calhoun crossed the finish line with a time of 54.3, edging out White by .3 seconds.
Bastrop totaled 52.5 points to finish fifth in the team standings behind Camden Fairview, El Dorado, Magnolia and Crossett.
“It wasn't a bad meet for us,” Bastrop coach Sedarrin Freeman said. “Camden Fairview and El Dorado were there and El Dorado's good every year, so there was some good competition there. We finished fifth out of 15 teams — boys and girls — which isn't bad.”
White and Calhoun also ran with Devin Brown and Quartavious Johnson to help the Rams to a second-place finish in the 4 x 400m relay. Crossett compiled a winning time of 3:46.2 to nip Bastrop by a tenth of a second.
Bastrop's 4 x 100m relay team of J-Man Davis, Devin Brown, Jamari Payne and LaQuincy Bethea was clocked at 44.5 for fourth place.
“We did a little better in the 4 x 1, but we still had a bad stick between the second and third legs,” Freeman said.
Arkansas does not sanction the 4 x 200m relay, which is replaced by the 4 x 800m, or the javelin.
Bastrop's 4 x 800m relay team of Devin Cherry, Ken Rabun, Corey Lovett and Jaleel Barber managed a respectable seventh-place finish at 9:57.
Coming off of a first-place finish in the Super 1 Relays, Demarcus Haynes placed a strong fourth in the 1600m with a time of 5:11.0.
Jamari Payne tied for fourth in the 200m (23.3).
Lenzell Jones and Xavier Latting placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles at 46.2 and 46.7. Latting also picked up a point with an eighth-place finish in the 110m hurdles (18.0).
Rabun added a point in the 3200m.
Jalynn Rayford gave Bastrop its only points in the field events, placing third in the shot put with a throw of 117-3.
Bastrop will go to Monroe for the Wossman Relays on Friday.
