Stacey Mewborn, who has been hospitalized, turned herself in late Thursday afternoon and remains in custody, with a hold being placed on her for violating her probation in an earlier case from Tennessee.
In 2008, she pled guilty to a theft of close to $60,000 from her employer, received a suspended sentence and was placed on probation.
MPSO Sheriff Mike Tubbs said that he had received a complaint on January 15, 2013 regarding money raised for the Little Angels of Northeast La., a charity designed to help families dealing with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Osteogenesis Imperfecta. The complainant told Tubbs that Stacey Mewborn was the president of the charity and her husband, Quinton Mewborn, was the treasurer and a pageant had been held on Dec. 8, 2012, where monies raised were supposed to go to a local family dealing with the disease.
As of Jan. 15, no money had been received and numerous questions regarding the account went unanswered. Sheriff Tubbs immediately requested the La. State Police's criminal investigation department handle the complaint, as Quenton Mewborn worked as a deputy in Morehouse. The LSP conducted an investigation into the charges and on March 1, obtained warrants for the couple.
