  • Cade Cantrell and Carlos Shaw of Bastrop High have been named to the Division II All-State soccer team by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
    Cantrell, an All-District goalkeeper, has a 3.68 grade point average. Shaw, a fullback, has a 3.54 gpa. Both have been members of the team since the school added soccer to its sports program two years ago.
    Other District II players on the Academic All-State team include Tyler Sanderson (3.78), Nicholas Buttitta (3.75) and William Green (3.51) of Neville and Spencer Perkins (3.61) of West Ouachita.
    Only seniors are eligible for the team.
    DUBACH WINS: Former Delta basketball coaches went 2-0 in state basketball championship games this week.
    Jesse Burnette's Carroll Bulldogs defeated Farmerville on Thursday night in the boys Class 3A finals. On Friday afternoon, Theodis Johnson directed Dubach to a 60-58 victory over Saline in the girls Class C state championship game.
    Sueterria Key led the Lady Hornets (26-2) with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
    Johnson, who is also the head boys coach at Dubach, headed up boys teams at Delta and Bastrop earlier in his career.
    The state championship games wrap up Saturday at ULM's Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Games on the docket include John Curtis vs. St. Thomas Aquinas, Class 2A girls, at 2 noon; St. Thomas Aquinas vs. Riverside, Class 2A boys, at 2 p.m.; Southwood vs. Natchitoches Central, Class 5A girls, at 6; and Ouachita vs. Scotlandville, Class 5A boys, at 8.
    PRO DAY: Former Bastrop High Parade All-American Randall Mackey had the opportunity to work  out for NFL scouts as Ole Miss held its Pro Day on Thursday.
    Scouts from 15 NFL teams watched as a group of Rebels' seniors went through a series of tests and drills, inclduing the 40-yard dash, bench press and position-related drills.
    Ole Miss' starting quarterback for most of his junior year, Mackey split time between running back and wide receiver as a freshman.
    Other Ole Miss seniors participating in the Pro Day were A.J. Hawkins, Ferbia Allen, Jim Broadway, Terrell Brown, E.J. Epperson, Uriah Grant, H.R. Greer, Jason, Jones, Joel Kight, Ivan Nichols, Gilbert Pena, Wesley Pendleton, Bryson Rose and Devin Thomas.
    Also taking part in the workouts were former Rebels Enrique Davis, Derrick Herman, Jared Mitchell, Gerald Rives and Justin Smith.
