The Vatican has announced the conclave to elect the next pope will start on Tuesday, CNN reports. The cardinals voted when to start the elction process, as well as whether to accept the letters of explanation from two cardinals who will not be participating in the conclave. One, from Cardinal Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja of Indonesia, cited health reasons. The other was from Cardinal Keith O'Brien, who resigned last week after allegations he made sexual advances towards men studying to become priests.
Since Monday, the cardinals have been meeting for General Congregations where they have discussed issues facing the church, such as sex abuse by priests and the Vatican leaks.
