Sarah Gandy and Taylor Wilson had two hits apiece as the Sterlington Lady Panthers locked up their first victory in seven tries with a 6-4 decision over Franklin Parish on Tuesday evening in Winnsboro.
Carrying a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Panthers staved off a Franklin Parish comeback to secure the win.
Chelbi Knight's RBI single plated Amber Knight, who singled, giving the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead in the second.
Abi Taylor reached on an error to start the third and scored on Gandy's double. Two outs later, Cassidy Brady's run-scoring single upped the Lady Panthers' margin to 3-0.
Avery Elkins started the fourth with a triple and came down the line as Taylor Wilson was safe via error. Brady followed with a one-out double, widening the difference to 5-0.
Franklin Parish cut the lead to 5-3 in the home half of the sixth.
Both teams added single tallies in the seventh.
Sterlington totaled seven hits as Gandy and Brady doubled and singled, Elkins tripled and Knight and Johnson singled.
Gandy allowed five hits, while striking out four and walking one for the win.
Sterlington opens District 2-2A play Thursday at Sibley. Starting times are 5 p.m. for JV and 6:30 for varsity.
Sterlington won Tuesday's JV game against Franklin Parish, 5-0.
Shelby Taylor fanned four of the six batters she faced in two perfect innings for the win. Taylor struck out four batters and Morgan Edwards closed it out.
Haley Yarbrough paced the Lady Panthers with a pair of singles and Cooley and Canaan Malone singled.
