  • “It is a privilege to work with city officials that have the same desire to keep students safe and sound and are willing to do what is necessary to ensure that the safety of students remains a top priority,” Noflin said.
Alford-Olive said she and Noflin are in agreement on some new actions they are executing in hopes of making students, teachers and parents feel more secure.
“I am very appreciative of our shared interest in that Dr. Noflin and I have for making our community the best that it can be,” Alford-Olive said.
Noflin said they've implemented certain measures that should keep students safer.
“We've established a School Resource Officer at both Bastrop High School and Morehouse Junior High School,” Noflin said.
The SRO attempts to prevent juvenile delinquency by promoting positive relations between youth and law enforcement.
Noflin said the MPSB has made a layout of each campus available to the city to help with the location of a potential intruder. They've also provided the city with a schedule of fire and intruder drills to be held at each campus.
“We've collaborated a city-wide drill including first and second lines of defense,” Noflin said. “We've distributed materials to our students with the necessary information to contact local officials.”
Last week, all Morehouse Parish students received Be Safe pamphlets from their schools. These pamphlets listed safety tips from the BPD and the BFD. Some of these tips included being prepared for the risks with children using the Internet and making an escape plan with your family in case of a fire.
“These are some of the ways that we work together for the betterment of the students in Morehouse Parish,” Noflin said. “ I am very glad and proud to work in an environment where there is a spirit of collaboration and cooperation.”
