Funeral services for Juanita "Granny" Tharp, age 97, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at First United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Dwight Fulton and the Rev. James Hawthorne officiating. Interment will follow in Stevenson Cemetery, (Vaughn Community), under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Mrs. Tharp, a homemaker and entertainer and a resident of Bastrop, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013. Mrs. Tharp was a member of Gatlinburg Church of God and attended First United Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Tharp was an avid entertainer and and excellent cook. Mrs. Tharp sang professionally in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and was the 1967 winner on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour Show. Mrs. Tharp was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Cleon and Lolette Roberts; husband, Willie A. Tharp; daughter, Betty Jean Tharp; grandson, the Rev. B.J. Tharp; brothers, Claude Roberts, Richard Roberts, Herman Roberts and sister, Evelyn Tucker.
Mrs. Tharp is survived by her grandchildren, Bill Tharp and wife Carolyn Tharp of Bastrop, Sherry Jones and husband Harmon of Gilbert, Terry Tharp of Bastrop, Kathy Carruth and husband Jerry of McComb, Miss., Lavelle Tharp and wife Jeanie of Archibald; 14 great grandchildren; and 27 great great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Morgan, Jobie Tharp, Charles Tharp, Johnathan Carruth, Thomas Tharp, and Jason Tharp. Honorary pallbearers will be Kaden Tharp, Jody Morgan II, Jakob Tharp and Joel Tharp.
