For those Morehouse Parish residents who love garage sales, prepare yourself to conveniently shop them all day via many garage sales under one roof, during the 2nd Annual Garage Sale – Flea Market on March 2 at the Morehouse Activity Center (MAC.)

As a way to raise money for maintenance needed at the MAC, the board of directors attempted this event last year, with much success. They hosting another one this year, and hoping to bring in a crowd that's equal to the last.

Board member Ruby Collins is coordinating the event this year. She said 17 vendors have already signed up.

“We had 30 booths last year,” she said. “I'm hoping to have that many or more this year.”

Board president Jimmy Christmas said that with the large amount of vendors, a large crowd turned out to shop.

“We had at least 300 people come out,” Christmas said. “Just about everything you can imagine is sold by vendors. The only thing we don't allow to be sold at these events is animals.”

Collins said the items that will be available in the garage sale will range from new to used items and jewelry to tupperware.

“There'll be regular garage sale items, but there will also be antiques, candles, home décor, handmade blankets and Kraftmans will be selling their cookbooks,”she said. “At least 10 of the vendors who signed up this year are repeat vendors from last year. They did so well, they're coming back.”

Christmas said one of the reasons this event was successful, it's because the covered arena keeps everyone dry if there were bad weather.

“If there's inclement weather, it won't matter because the arena is covered,” he said.

Collins added that instead of driving and shopping all day, it's more convenient having them in one location.

“Rather than travel all over the place, save your gas and come get everything you want in one spot,” she said.

The Garage Sale- Flea Market will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 2 at the MAC. Admission is $2 per car, which includes parking.

“We're going to have food vendors this year,” Collins said. “This will be great way for churches or youth groups to raise money for their organizations.”
