  • Rams, Panthers meet in opener of eight-game jam

  • Bastrop will be among the eight teams playing in the Sterlington High Baseball Jamboree on Saturday.
    Games will be limited to three innings or a one-hour, 30-minute time limit.
    Starting bright and early, the Rams are matched against Sterlington at 8:30 a.m. and defending state champion Ouachita Christian at 10.
    Bastrop will send sophomore righthander Kyle Perkins to the mound against Sterlington, with sophomore righthander Chase Cockrell taking the bump against OCS.
    Working a staff-high 43 innings, Perkins compiled a 2-2 record with a 2.93 earned run average as a freshman.
    Cockrell, who spent the majority of his time at third base and shortstop last season, was 1-3 in six appearances.
    Rounding out the eight-game docket are OCS vs. Claiborne Christian at 11:30 a.m., Claiborne Christian vs. Delhi Charter at 1 p.m., Delhi Charter vs. Farmerville at 2:30, Farmerville vs. Oak Grove at 4, Oak Grove vs. St. Frederick at 5:30 and St. Frederick vs. Sterlington in the nightcap at 7.
    Bastrop opens the regular season against Delhi Charter on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Baron Ballpark.
