CANEY LAKE — Bass are beginning to move shallow with reports of some already on the beds. Best results have come from fishing the Brush Hog in the new South Africa Special color around the boat docks in 2-5 foot water. Crappie are moving to the back of the coves while some remain in deeper water. Shiners and jigs should work on these fish. Some yellow bass are still being caught in deep water on jigging spoons. CHENIERE LAKE — The lake is still rather high. Bass are best around the trees on soft plastics while some crappie are biting around Puckett Lake on shiners or jigs. Call the Honey Hole at 323-8707 for more information.
LAKE CLAIBORNE — A good many crappie are being caught deep on shiners and jigs while some are biting shiners on yo-yos up the creeks. Bass fishing has improved with most caught fishing Brush Hogs, a War Eagle spinner bait or pepper jig up D'Arbonne and Beaver creeks. Some stripers have been caught at night around lighted piers. LAKE D'ARBONNE — The bass are beginning to move shallow and hitting Shaky Heads around the piers early mornings with pepper jigs, Zoom lizards and craw-worms taking some later around the trees in 5-6 foot water especially up Little D'Arbonne around the Mixing Hole. Some crappie are being caught on yo-yos baited with shiners up the creeks. Catfishing is good; bream have not started. For latest information, call Anderson's Sport Center at 318-368-9669.
OUACHITA RIVER — Crappie fishing continues to be best up the creeks and river lakes on jigs and shiners. Bass are fair with some caught around the sand bars on crank baits and Rat-L-Traps. For current information, call the Honey Hole at 323-8707.
LAKE POVERTY POINT — Catfishing has been good fishing off the deck at the marina using cut bait or night crawlers. Crappie fishing has been best late afternoons fishing shiners or jigs around the boat slips at the marina while some have been caught fairly shallow on the south end of the lake. LAKE ST. JOHN — The lake is now open and bass fishing has been good this week on spinner baits and jigs. Catfishing is good on trotlines. Crappie are just beginning to bite. Call Doug Miller or Ken Mahoney at Lake St. John Grocery (318-757-0013) for latest reports and fishing conditions.
