  • Car rear-ends Morehouse Parsih school bus

  • A Morehouse Parish school bus carrying six students was rear ended by a motorist around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the school system's transportation coordinator, Debbie Buckley.
    “No one was injured,” Buckley said. “The bus slowed down to make a stop on Shelton Road and the car hit it from behind.”

  • Buckley said there were skid marks behind the bus 20 feet long.
    “The car tried to stop before it hit the bus,” she said.
    Buckley said the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Department came immediately, but they handed the incident over to the State Police.
    Louisiana State Police Troop F Public Information Officer Albert Paxton, said the driver of the car was 57-year-old Carfton Lingfelt of Bastrop. Paxton said Lingfelt was driving a 1989 Jeep SUV.
    “He was ticketed with careless operation,” Paxton said.
    Paxton said the bus driver was 54-year-old Donald Cephas, of Bastrop.
    “He wasn't at fault,” Paxton said.
    Buckley said the parents of the children were contacted to come and pick their children up at the scene of the accident.
    “All of the parents but one came,” she said. “We took that child home.”
    Buckley said if one of the students shows signs of an injury in the days after the accident, the school system would encourage them to go see a doctor.
    “We will do whatever we need to do on our end to ensure the children are okay,” Buckley said.
