Americana Walker led a trio of double figures scorers with 15 points as Homer ran past Sterlington 52-33 Tuesday night at the Panthers' Den.
With the victory, the Lady Pelicans (18-7, 7-1) remained in a first-place tie with Jonesboro-Hodge atop the District 2-2A standings.
Down 6-3, the Lady Panthers went up 8-6 when Bronwyn Pepper connected from the right baseline and LaTasha English scorched a 3-pointer from the right wing. It would be Sterlington's only lead of the night.
Back-to-back buckets from the paint by Kim Jackson and Walker's breakaway bucket enabled the Lady Pelicans to build a 12-8 advantage at the end of the quarter.
Completing a 12-0 flurry, the Lady Pelicans scored the first six points of the second session.
Jasmyn Jenkins opened the second quarter scoring from point-blank range and Cierra Washington intercepted the ensuing inbounds pass for an easy deuce. Walker's transition basket increased the difference to 18-8.
Sterlington battled back with a 8-0 run. LaTasha English and Alayah Mitchell swished 3s on consecutive possessions and Kaneisha Carr set up Pepper's 14-footer from the right side, closing the margin to 18-16.
Homer closed out the half with a 6-0 spurt on Mya Manuel's rebound bucket, Aleyia Willis' basket from underneath and Jenkins' putback to grab a 24-16 halftime edge.
Homer steadily added to its lead through the second half.
Manuel filled the hoop for six points as the Lady Pelicans outscored the Lady Panthers 16-9 in the third quarter en route to opening up a 40-25 margin.
LaTasha English's 3-pointer from the left corner shaved the deficit to 40-28, but it was as close as the Lady Panthers would get.
Homer then embarked on a 9-0 spree to put the game out of reach. Manuel scored the final five points of the run with a 3-pointer and a chip shot, expanding the gap to 49-28.
Walker was joined in double figures by Manuel with 13 — 11 in the second half — and Jenkins with 10.
For Sterlington (13-12, 3-5) LaTasha English led all scorers with 18 points on four trifectas — one in each quarter.
Sterlington closes out a two-game homestand against Lake Providence on Friday. Starting time for the Senior Night contest is 6 p.m.
