  • Ronnie Sharp, a life long friend of Long's, said the invitation is extended to all those who knew and loved Curtis Long, a Sterlington resident, Angus employee and a dedicated Boy Scout leader.
Sharp said “In addition to being a special employee and person, Curtis Long, was also very active with the local Boy Scouts of America. In conjunction with National Scout Sunday on Feb. 3, the unveiling and dedication of a permanent plaque will be held at 2 p.m. at the flagpole at the Sterlington Recreation Center.”
Long was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.
Pastor Judy Bazer said Long's giving spirit was the character trait that stands out the most in her memory of their friendship.
“I remember the how giving he was,” Bazer said. “He was always doing things for other people. I have seen him many times mowing around the town sign, and doing things he was never asked to do. And I would have never known he did all these nice things either, if I had not caught him.”
Bazer said Long was a sincere example of a man who truly lived out God's Word by example.
“He was living out the gospel, trying to be more like Christ,” she said. “He had a deep love for God and that was his driving force.”
