Services for LSU-Alexandria sophomore outfielder Brandon Goyne are tentatively scheduled for Friday at noon in Shreveport.

Brandon Goyne, a sophomore outfielder for the LSU-Alexandria baseball team, passed away late Friday afternoon after collapsing in practice earlier in the day.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home in Shreveport. Funeral services are set for Friday at noon at Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport. Debbie Goyne, Brandon's mother, said service times are tentative, pending an autopsy.

Brandon Goyne was rushed to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria after collapsing in the outfield during Friday's preseason practice session. He never regained consciousness.

Brandon's aunt, Beth Freeman of Bastrop, said that his teammates as well as several members of the LSUA softball team were at the hospital Friday afternoon in support of Brandon.

Derek Goyne, Brandon's older brother, is a senior outfielder for the Generals. Freeman said that her nephews shared an apartment, adding that Derek transferred to LSUA from East Texas Baptist University to have the opportunity to play with Brandon.

Scott Goyne, formerly of Bastrop, said that LSUA plans to retire jersey No. 31 in his son's honor.
According to a story posted on the Alexandria Town Talk web site (, Brandon Goyne appeared in 27 games as a redshirt freshman for the Generals last season, batting .239, with a triple, three doubles and six RBI.

Brandon signed with the Generals, who compete in the NAIA, out of Elysian Fields (Texas) High School where he earned first-team All-District and All-East Texas honors.

Two candlelight vigils were held in Brandon's memory in the Waskon-Elysian Fields area over the weekend, with approximately 1,000 people attending.

"We really appreciate the outpouring of support," Debbie Goyne said early Monday afternoon. "Everyone has been so positive."

Survivors include his parents, Scott and Debbie Jorstad Goyne; brother Derek and fiancée Leanna and their son, Connor; girlfriend, Katherine Trahan; grandparents Cookie Jorstad and Wayne and Sylvia Goyne of Bastrop; aunts, Julie Jorstad Gay, husband Mark and children Alexandria, Krystyn and Parker, and Beth Freeman, husband Alan and son Justin McCrary; uncles Todd Jorstad, wife Heather and children Reagan and Seth, and Mitch Goyne, wife Cheryl and children, Austin and Sarah; great-aunts, Marilynn Boudreau and husband John; Annette McIntyre and husband Don; Jan Grubbs and husband Jerry; great-uncles Dan Chapman and wife Shirley; and cousins Tara Heun and husband Chris and Johna Page and husband Mike.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the LSUA or Elysian Fields High School baseball programs.
