Dani Anderson scored Prairie View's first nine points en route to a 20-point, 14-rebound effort as the Lady Spartans posted a convincing 58-32 victory over River Oaks on Friday evening.
Anderson's six-foot turnaround, off of an Erika Guerrero assist, broke a 2-2 tie and put the visitors ahead for good. Anderson then scored off of a pair of offensive rebounds, sandwiched around a free throw, to give the Lady Spartans a 9-2 lead.
Prairie View was up 15-8 at the end of the first eight minutes.
Leading 21-11, the Lady Spartans (18-5, 2-0) rattled off the game's next 17 points to settle the issue.
Kristen Oliphant's runner from the lane started the flurry and Prairie View's full court pressure began to take its toll on the Lady Mustangs.
Anderson's short turnaround, Amery Clark's breakaway layup, Tori Simmons' 15-footer and Jay Hicks' bucket from down low pushed the Lady Spartans' advantage to 31-11 at the midway point.
Buckets by Simmons and Anderson opened the second half scoring, before Oliphant's trey upped the margin to 38-11.
Prairie View led by as many as 28, 44-16, and carried a 46-25 lead into the final frame.
Anderson, who converted 8-of-13 shots, scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half and blocked three shots. Oliphant's line included 15 points — 12 in the second half — five assists and four steals. Simmons was next with eight points and five steals. Rounding out the Lady Spartans' scoring were Sarah Cammarasana with five points, Hicks and Clark with four apiece and Kaylah Hobbs with two.
Sam Thurman tallied eight points and Symphony Phillips came off the bench to drop in six points on a pair of 3-pointers for the Lady Mustangs, who slipped to 0-2 in district play.
Notes: Prairie View, which used its entire 13-player roster, was charged with only 10 turnovers. … River Oaks won the junior varsity game 15-12. Chloe Wallace was top scorer for the Lady Mustangs with seven and Erin Eubanks accounted for six points for the Lady Spartans.
