  • The Morehouse Parish Police Jury meeting approved another year of service for the board’s top officers and learned that the treasurer won’t be serving another term.
At the Monday, Jan. 14, police jury meeting, Terry Matthews was re-elected for a sixth term to serve as MPPJ president and Floyd Tomboli was re-elected for a second term to serve as vice-president, both by unanimous vote.
The 2010-12 MPPJ treasurer Gloria McKoin will not be appointed to serve for another term, said Tomboli, leaving the position open.
Tomboli said McKoin's position was halted due to a lack of performance and some “bad audits,” clearly stating that there was no money missing, only money that was “delegated incorrectly.”
Matthews also stressed that McKoin's termination was performance-based.
“I have to add that there was no hint of dishonesty,” Matthews said. “However, there were repeated accounting problems and some performance issues which ultimately led to her termination on Monday.”
Details for future MPPJ treasurer applicants are not yet completed and will be announced in the near future, Matthews added.
Also discussed during the meeting was a contract with the Solid Waste Committee on a parish-wide trash collection for businesses and churches which is set to begin in the next month or two, Mathews said.
“This will help to keep the tax money here in Morehouse Parish,” he said, adding that trash collections have been and are currently contracted with a trash disposal service outside the parish.
For more information on the new trash collection service or to sign-up for services, call the Morehouse Parish Police Jury at 281-4132.
