  • Despite Trindon Holliday's best efforts, the Denver Broncos came out on the short end of a gut-wrenching 38-25 double overtime decision to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.
The 5-5, 169-pound dynamo from Zachary's Northeast High School and LSU scored the game's first touchdown on a 90-yard punt return and took the second half kickoff to the house from 104 yards out.
Former Evangel and LSU standout Jacob Hester threw the initial block to help spring Holliday on the kickoff.
While Holliday and Hester's season ended in disappointment, several other players with Louisiana ties have a chance to advance to the Super Bowl this weekend.
Veteran center Todd McClure (Baton Rouge Central and LSU) is the Atlanta Falcons' starting center, while Louisiana Tech product Luke McCown is the backup quarterback.
Ricky Jean Francois is in his fifth season as a reserve defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers and safety Curtis Taylor is a member of the practice squad. Francois and Taylor, a former Franklinton High stalwart, both played their college ball at LSU.
Another LSU product, running back Stevan Ridley is enjoying a fine season with the New England Patriots. The second-year pro from Natchez (Miss.) Trinity Episcopal is the Patriots' leading rusher (290 carries, 1,263 yards, 12 TDs) and has caught six passes for 51 yards.
Former Nicholls State star Ladrius Webb, a cornerback/return specialist, is on the Baltimore Ravens' injured reserve list.
BARRY RUBIN has accompanied Andy Reid in moving from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rubin has been appointed as the Chiefs' head strength & conditioning coach, the same position he held with the Eagles for the past three seasons.
Prior to joining the Eagles as assistant strength coach in 2008, Rubin spent 11 years in the Green Bay Packers' organization where he was  head strength & conditioning coach from 1999-2005. During his time at Green Bay, the Packers won Super Bowl XXXI (1997) under coach Mike Holmgren. Rubin was inducted into the USA Strength & Conditioning Hall of Fame in 2003.
Travis Crittenden has been hired as the Chiefs' assistant strength coach.
In other moves, Reid has named former ULM quarterback and Calvary Baptist head coach Doug Pederson as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator. Pederson spent the past two seasons in Philadelphia as quarterbacks coach.
NURSE CAMPBELL: Former Bastrop High pitcher Justin Campbell is now employed as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe.
