Visitation will be Thursday, from 5PM - 7PM at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
Mr. Atkins, a retiree with International Paper Company, was born March 1, 1925 at
Hamburg, Arkansas. He passed away on January 14, 2013 at Bastrop, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Harrison Atkins; parents, Charles Augustus
Atkins and Omar Mitchell Atkins; 4 brothers, Clinton Atkins, Clifton Atkins, Buford
"Stick" Atkins, and Earl Atkins; sister, Martha Middlebrooks.
Mr. Atkins will always be remembered for his odd recipes and the thoughtful and
creative games he invented for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed riding his
great-grandchildren on his golf cart around his house and pond where they would feed
and catch fish. His great-grandchildren voiced great memories of these fun times
and remember him always laughing and smiling.
Jack wanted every day spent at his house to be a special one. There was not a
holiday or gathering that took place that he didnt't give lots of thoughtful
planning to the day's games and events. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Donna Atkins of Bastrop,
Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Francine Atkins of Bastrop, Louisiana;
daughter and son-in-law, Unaka and Kelly Pugh of Spring, Texas; 5 grandchildren,
Zelia "Z.Z." Wilson and husband Chad, Guston Atkins, Russell Atkins and wife Paige,
Brian Pugh and fiance' Heather Marshall, Hanna Pugh; 6 great-grandchildren, Tyler
Wilson, Jackson Atkins, Harrison Atkins, Bailynn Atkins, Jacob Pugh, and Grayson
Atkins, numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Guston Atkins, Chad Wilson, Russell Atkins, Brian Pugh, Ronnie
Atkins, Bill Atkins.
Honorary pallbearers are Jack Atkins, Mark Jenkins, Morris Jenkins, Mike Atkins,
Chris Atkins, Jeff Atkins.
