The Sterlington Police Department has planned an Active Shooter Class Saturday. The class, which will simulate an attack on the local school, is designed to help prepare local law enforcement in the event of such an event.
An individual will play the role of a shooter with a handgun containing blanks.
“It will be simulated ammunition,” said chief Barry Bonner. “It will look and sound like a real incident.”
Bonner said kids from the Sterlington High School will play the role of students. He said several other agencies will be present as well.
The Active Shooter Class is Jan. 12. Admission is free and the public is invited. Everyone will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the town hall and then go to Al Smith School (Sterlington Elementary.) The gunman simulation will begin at 1:30 p.m.
