Breaking up a close game in the fourth quarter, Central Hinds pulled away for a 69-48 victory over visiting Prairie View as both teams started MAIS District 3-2A play Tuesday night.
Matt Reed staked the Spartans to an early 8-2 lead with six points.
Prairie View held a 14-9 edge at the end of the quarter, but the Cougars seized a 29-21 halftime advantage.
Prairie View whittled the deficit to 37-34 at the close of the third frame, before being outscored 32-14 in the fourth quarter.
Ben Davis, a towering presence in the post, and guard Trae Muse did most of the damage for the Cougars. Davis supplied 27 points off the bench and Muse poured in 25.
Brendan Tubbs paced the Spartans (10-9) with 19 points and Brandon Jacobs tossed in 15. Rounding out the PVA scoring were Reed with six, Tyler Jones with four and Kory McLarrin and Payton Hollis with two.
Playing at home for the first time in over a month, the Spartans resume district play against Riverdale on Tuesday night.
