  • Prep offsets Tori Simmons' 24-point effort

  • Despite receiving a career-high 24-point effort from Tori Simmons, the Prairie View Lady Spartans came out on the short end of a 63-33 verdict against Jackson Prep on Thursday afternoon in the Jackson Academy Double Header.
    Prep (17-5), the No. 3-ranked team in MAIS Class 3A, opened up a 15-8 first quarter lead and was up 25-16 at halftime. Outscoring the Lady Spartans 22-11 in the third quarter, the Lady Patriots stretched the difference to 47-27.
    Sara Bolen and Morgan Litchler scored 16 points apiece and Ann Hilton Buckner pitched in 11 for the Lady Patriots.
    Simmons carried the load offensively for the Lady Spartans (17-4), who are ranked No. 6 in Class 2A.
    Prairie View returns to JA on Saturday at 3:30 to take on another 3A foe, fifth-ranked Hillcrest Christian.
