A crash on Highway 139 resulted in the death of a 39-year-old Bastrop man yesterday evening.

At 9:20 p.m. on January 8, Louisiana State Police troopers responded to the crash.

The LSP report stated the driver, Sheldon Lindsay, was transported to Morehouse General Hospital where he was pronounced dead due to severe trauma inflicted during the accident.

Lindsay was driving his 1982 Toyota Tercel down Highway 139 when he lost control of the vehicle, and ran off the main road, crashing into a tree, the report said.

Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office chief deputy Brian Shoemaker said Lindsay first ran over a gas meter and then wrecked into the tree.

“I don't know exactly what caused him to run off the road,” Shoemaker said. “It is pretty straight where he crashed.”

The LSF report stated that Lindsay was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
