  • The Morehouse Parish Humane Society Animal Shelter will be holding a Puppy Adoption event this Saturday at Tractor Supply, but this event won't be like the occasional adoptions they've held periodically. As if lovable, cuddly puppies aren't enough of a main attraction, this Puppy Adoption event will offer refreshments, hand painted Christmas ornaments and activities planned for the kids. All children that attend will also get to see Santa and his elves. MPHS president Mindy Biffenderfer said that Santa's visit will be unique because the children are encouraged to bring their letters to Santa. “This will give the children a chance to hand deliver their letters to Santa,” Biffenderfer said. “The special twist is that all the children who bring Santa their letters with their names and addresses included on them are guaranteed to receive a return letter from Santa, delivered by mail to their home within a few days after the event.” Biffenderfer said they'll be bringing out new litters of puppies from several different breeds. They'll be puppies ranging from a Ratt Terrior mix all the way to some blue eyed Catahoula Cur mixes. With the society's main purpose of finding good homes for homeless pets, their gun raffle ticket sales are still being held to raise money for additional improvements at the shelter. Tickets can be purchased for $50 a piece at the Chamber of Commerce and Bastrop Tire. The raffle is for a different gun each week, the winner is determined when a contestant's raffle ticket matches the winning numbers on the Louisiana Lottery Pick 3 drawing at 10 p.m. every Saturday. Bastrop man Michael Austin won the raffle three times this year, yielding three different guns. “The first time I won I was really happy,” Austin said. “The second time I won I was very surprised. The third time I won I was in disbelief. It was all the proof I needed that it couldn't possibly be rigged. The money they raise also goes to a great cause. I'm going to purchase four or five tickets for the new season's drawings.” "Bring the kids out Saturday and get their picture made with Santa,” Biffenderfer said. “Your are also encouraged to bring the family pet and have its picture made with Santa. We just want everyone to enjoy themselves. We're mainly trying to promote the Morehouse Humane Society and these wonderful animals who need good homes.” The Puppy Adoption event will be from 10 am. to 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply on E. Madison.
