Obituaries – Oct. 14 George M. Shamblin, Sr. Funeral services for Mr. George M. Shamblin, Sr., age 93, of Bastrop are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, November 16, 2012, at Central Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Britt Dupree and Rev. Mollie McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Shamblin, a retired supervisor at International Paper Company and an avid photographer, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He participated in 6 military campaigns in the European Theater. Mr. Shamblin was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Citation, and the European Theater Operation medal with 6 battle stars. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Drane Williams Shamblin; son, Dr. George Shamblin, Jr. and wife Alicia of Round Rock, TX, daughters, Mary D'Arcy and husband Neville of Columbia, LA, Kay Arthur and husband Hugh of Bastrop, LA, Debbie Harper and husband Clarence of Bastrop, LA; sister, Bea Addison and husband Carl of Sterlington, LA; grandchildren, Ken Shamblin, Mike Shamblin, Staci Fontenot and husband Mike, Will D'Arcy, Chris D'Arcy and wife Danielle, Kathy Watts, Amanda Belin and husband Joe, Aubre Polo and husband Garrett; eighteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren. Mr. Shamblin is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Naomi Shamblin; brother, Sam Shamblin; sister-in-law, Celeste Shamblin; sisters, Ruth Nichols, LaDora Shamblin, Mae Potter; first wife, Mary Ella Shamblin; second wife, Myrtis Watters Shamblin and grandson, John Christopher Shamblin. Honorary pallbearers will be Conner Watts and Mike Fontenot. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012, from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Francis Geraldine Crenshaw Funeral services for Mrs. Francis Geraldine Crenshaw, age 73, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 in the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Beekman cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Crenshaw, a homemaker and a former employee at Oakwoods, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 in Monroe, LA. Mrs. Crenshaw is preceded in death by her parents, William Delton Kilcrease and Bertie Elizabeth Johnson Kilcrease; brothers, Ernest Kilcrease, Elmer Kilcrease; sisters, Willie Vee Mullins, Helen Sumrall; and special son-in-law, Carlton Vines. Mrs. Crenshaw is survived by her children, Gerald Crenshaw of Parkdale, AR, Sheila Vines of Parkdale, AR, Terry Crenshaw and wife Sheryl of Bastrop, LA, Monica Adams Oden and husband Fred of Bastrop, LA, Evelyn Freeland of Bastrop, LA, Christopher Kilcrease of Mer Rouge; sisters, Barbara Chesney of Monroe, LA, Betty Hughes of St. Amant, LA; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In honor of their mother, the children will serve as pallbearers and grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Golden Funeral Home. Maedell Barr Maedell Barr, 87, joined her heavenly father on November 10, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Reverend Henry Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Maedell was born on May 10, 1925 in Chatham, Louisiana. The family soon relocated to Oak Grove where she attended school at Pioneer, Louisiana. Maedell worked at International Paper Company, in the bag division, and later at Kraftman Credit Union. A lover of all things green, she also worked at Hall's nursery for a number of years and enjoyed gardening at her home in Bastrop along with her husband JR. She is preceded in death by her husband and lifelong love of 33 years, James R. "JR" Barr, Sr., her parents, Jessie B. Bush and Katie Ewing Bush, and two brothers Robert Jackson Bush and Jessie Benoit Bush. Mrs. Barr is survived by one son, James R. Barr, Jr. and his wife, Dayle Barr of Allen, Texas, her grandson, Clinton Matthew Barr of Plano, Texas, and two brothers, Thomas Garland Bush of Ada, Oklahoma and Sherman Lamar Bush of Oak Grove, Louisiana. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 15th, beginning at 1:00 P.M. until time for services at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. Serving as pallbearers will be Clinton Barr, Ron Bush, Jay Bush, Heston Bush, and Barry Bush.
