  • Obituaries Published Oct. 16, 2012 Lilian Joan Marchant Courson Lilian Joan Marchant Courson died on October 14th, 2012, at the age of 91. She was born on May 27, 1921, in London, England, and was the eldest child of Frank and Alice Marchant. She met and married Norwood Robert Courson during World War II. They lived in London for two years after the war where he worked for the American Embassy. In 1948, they came to America and lived in Bastrop and he went to work for International Paper Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her three children: Carol Ann Shuey of Harahan, Louisiana; Michael John Courson of Bastrop, Louisiana; Kathleen Mary Blakeney and husband Dan of West Monroe, Louisiana; seven grandchildren: Aimee Shuey, Karen Shuey, Shane Courson, Ashley Nugent, Jennifer Courson, Trey Chandler, and William Chandler, and five great grandchildren: Kayce Holt, Dylan and Shelby Courson, Emma Kate Layton, and Maddox Nugent. Mrs. Courson was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bastrop for over 50 years where she taught four and five year olds for over 25 years and then worked in the nursery. She enjoyed crocheting and other crafts, loved visiting family and friends, and made 2 trips to England while her family was still living. Funeral services for Mrs. Lilian Courson will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 16th, 2012, at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Reverend L.H. McCollough officiating. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, October 15th, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Serving as pallbearers are Trey Chandler, William Chandler, Shane Courson, James Pratt, Bryan Nugent, and Matt Nicole. For those who wish the family suggest memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Bastrop or to the Morehouse Parish Humane Society. Johnie Mae Brandon Johnie Mae Brandon, 94, a resident of Bastrop, La., a homemaker, died October 10, 2012. Services will be Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop, La. Visitations is Friday, October 19, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Tennant Funeral Home in Bastrop, La. Burial will be in the Pipeline Cemetery in Beekman, La., under the direction of Tennant Funeral Home of Bastrop, La. Jerry Brown Jerry Brown, 55, a resident of Bastrop, La. Floorman, died October 13, 2012. Services will be Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 1 p.m. at New Jerusalem # 2 in Bastrop, La. Visitations is Friday October 19, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Tennant Funeral Home in Bastrop, La. Burial will be in the H.V. Adams Cemtery in Bastrop, under the direction of Tennant Funeral Home of Bastrop. Anna Orene Naff Hammon Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Orene Naff Hammon, age 84, are scheduled for Monday, October 15, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. L. H. McCollough and Rev. Kevin McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in Beekman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until 3 PM service time at Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Hammon, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at The Terrace of Bastrop. She loved her children very much and she was an extremely good cook and seamstress. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Brown and husband J.E. Brown of Monroe, LA; sons, William Hammon and fiance Martha Adcock of Farmerville, LA, James Newton Hammon and wife Pamela of Hamburg, AR; grandchildren, Amy Antley and husband Eric, Julie Hayes and husband Michael, Jay Brown, Cassanna Wuensche and husband John, Anna Christine Little and husband Tommy; great grandchildren, Jordyn, Austyn, Tyler, Sydney, Avery, Cooper, Charlotte, Jack, Ainslee, and Dillon. Mrs. Hammon is preceded in death by her husband Edward Warner Hammon; parents, Jack Allen Naff and Ruby Naff; three brothers and three sisters. Serving as pallbearers will be Charlie Coody, Eric Antley, Dillon Goodwin, Tommy Little, Jay Brown, and Michael Hayes.Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Bethel Baptist Church, Carl Ray Brodnax, David Montgomery, and Bert Campbell.
