  • Six-pack: Rosepine shuts out Pickering for sixth straight Big Dog Jug win

  • Noah Martin had 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and Blake Hinson had 92 yards and two touchdowns, as the Rosepine Eagles (4-3, 3-1) defeated the Pickering Red Devils (1-6, 1-3), 36-0, to claim their sixth straight Big Dog Jug Trophy presented by City Savings Bank.
    "This might have been our best overall performance of the year," Rosepine head coach Danny Smith said.
    "It was just a great win for us."
    Rosepine only needed four plays to get their first touchdown, as Hinson found Eric Kyle from 27 yards out to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead. After Pickering went three and out, Rosepine executed a 10-play, 76-yard drive that was capped by a 15-yard Hinson touchdown. Noah Martin added a touchdown just before halftime to give Rosepine a 22-0 lead at the half.
    In the second half, the Pickering defense held Rosepine to just four yards on the first three plays of their first drive, but Rosepine's punt hit a Pickering player on the leg, and Rosepine recovered the ball to get a fresh set of downs. Six plays later, Hinson scored his second rushing touchdown of the game to put Rosepine up 29-0. Martin added a four-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
    "We just got outplayed," Pickering head coach Lane Cook said. "We had spots where we had positive yardage, but we'd respond with two negative plays."
    Pickering sustained two drives in the second quarter that led them into Rosepine territory, but one ended on a turnover on downs and another ended with a James Means interception. In the secnond half, Pickering mustered -1-yards and mustered just one first down in their four possessions.
    Martin led all rushers with his 146 yards and two scores. Hinson had 44 passing yards and a touchdown to go along with his 92 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and Eric Kyle had 20 rushing yards and 44 receiving yards. The Eagles totaled 323 yards of offense, including 279 rushing yards, to Pickering's 56.
    Devin Whitley had 46 rushing yards to lead the Red Devils, and Daveon Banks had 16. Quarterback Garrett Collins was 0-3 and was intercepted once.
    The Eagles travel to Kinder (6-1, 3-1) for a district 4-2A showdown that could have first place rammifications, while Pickering returns home to face East Beauregard (0-7, 0-4). Kinder defeated DeQuincy 42-12, while East Beauregard lost to Vinton, 30-16.
