The Vernon Parish Library invites the community to visit with authors and enjoy musical performances at upcoming events. Musical Odyssey IX is a series of four free concert consisting of varied musical venues. Each performance is limited to 100 guests. Bobby Whitton, a guitarist, will perform at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 15. He began performing in Houston at 12 years old. Whitton has played with Willie Nelson, Orville Couch, Tammy Wynette, Dottie West, and Kenny Rogers many times. He moved to Branson to work with Mel Tillis in 1990, and is semi-retired. Jessie LauBaum, author of "Thomas the Wandering Cat," will be at the library 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16. The illustrated children's book tells the story of Thomas, a cat with blue fur who is teased. Thomas leaves home to search for a place he belongs, and has many adventures. Then he meets a special boy. LaBaum will have autographed copies of her book available for purchase. J. D. Davis, the author of "Unconquered: the Saga of Cousins Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Swaggert, and Mickey Gilley," will be at the library at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 29. Davis, a lifelong music fan, grew up intrigued with these three musicians. Lewis, Swaggert, and Gilley are legends, and were born within a 12 month span in Louisiana during the Great Depression. Davis spent several years researching their lives. He will discuss this fascinating story, and have signed copies of his book available for purchase at the event. Musical Odyssey IX continues with Keith Samuels performing at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 19. Sammy and Richard play acoustic music from the late 1960s and early 1970s, including songs by Dan Fogelberg, America, the Eagles, Neil Young, Jimmy Buffett, Cat Stevens, and the Beatles. Susan Cattaneo will sing a blend of country, rock and soul at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013. Susan's music will appeal to fans of Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, the Dixie Chicks, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Kim Richey. Shane Rodridguez hails from Louisiana, and is a singer, song writer, and performer. He has performed with Jerry and Tammy Sulivan, Southern Storm, and Twangsters Union.
