With 23 fatal crashes involving 26 deaths, Caddo Parish leads the state in traffic fatalities so far this year.
The Times of Shreveport (http://bit.ly/PqwoqG ) reports that the fatalities in the parish are down by four compared to the same period last year. But officials in Caddo are concerned about the approaching Labor Day weekend.
Cpl. Pamela Purgerson of the Caddo Sheriff's Office traffic safety unit said the fatalities are usually preventable by taking steps such as seatbelt and child restraint use, slowing down a bit or avoiding drugs or alcohol.
Purgerson cites speed, impairment and distractions as the primary reasons for the high number of traffic fatalities in Caddo.
