Prairie View will host a seven-team , nine-game softball tournament Saturday. Rounding out the seven-team field are Claiborne Academy, Glenbrook, Tensas Academy, River Oaks, Central Hinds and Riverdale.
Action begins at 8 a.m. with the Lady Spartans matched against Claiborne, followed by River Oaks vs. Central Hinds at 9:20, Glenbrook vs. Tensas at 10:40 and Riverdale vs. the River Oaks-Central Hinds winner at noon. The Prairie View-Claiborne winner and Glenbrook-Tensas winner take the field at 1:20, followed by loser's bracket games at 2:40 and 4, the consolation finals at 5:20 and the championship tilt at 6:40. A one-hour, 10-minute time limit will apply to all games.
In their only previous game this week, the Lady Spartans (12-2) had an 11-game winning streak snapped in Tuesday's 7-4 road loss to Riverfield. The Lady Raiders have dealt Prairie View both of its losses, although the Lady Spartans lead the season series 3-2.
Jeri Harper led the Lady Spartans at the plate vs. Riverfield with two hits, including an RBI double. For the season, Harper is batting .400 with six doubles and nine runs batted in.
Alyssa Montgomery leads the Lady Spartans offensively with a .412 batting average, seven extra base hits (1 HR, 1 3B, 5 2Bs) and 11 RBIs.
Other offensive leaders for the Lady Spartans include Erika Guerrero (.308, 6 2Bs, 12 runs) and Kaylah Hobbs (.303, 13 RBIs, 17 runs).
Prairie View has compiled a .274 team batting average, while scoring 6.2 runs per game.
On Monday, the Lady Spartans open MAIS District 3-2A play at home against River Oaks.
