  • Rueben Randle made his NFL debut in style Friday night, catching a touchdown pass in the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants' 32-31 preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Randle finished the evening with two catches for 21 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown pass from one-time LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux.
“I still have a lot to learn,” Randle said in a postgame interview with giants.com. “I just wanted to come out and showcase my talent to my coaches and fellow teammates and show them what I can bring to the table.”
Randle's TD grab put the Giants up 31-20 with 11:01 remaining, before the Jaguars rallied.
Catching passes wasn't Randle's only objective Friday night.
“I wanted to go out and block, as well, and let my teammates know that I'm not going to be a selfish player,” Randle said.
Randle, the former Bastrop High Parade All-American and All-SEC wide receiver was drafted in the second round by the Giants. While he has made progress, Randle says he is still working to master the playbook.
“I'm getting there, but there are still a lot of gray areas, especially on a couple of plays where I have to read the secondary, read routes and things like that, which I have to clear up,” Randle said. “But overall, I think it's going pretty well.”
Randle will make his New York debut Saturday night when the Giants play the Jets at 6 p.m.
ALL-SABAN: Bastrop High junior wide receiver Jamari Payne made the All-Nick Saban Team at the Alabama Football Camp held recently in Tuscaloosa. Out of 480 campers, Payne was among 50 players chosen to the team.
Payne graded out as excellent for attitude and effort and good for technique.
Last season, Payne hauled in 30 passes for 562 yards and four touchdowns.
